August 1 - 4, 2019
A thousand years ago, as grand cathedrals were being erected throughout Europe, a great civilization thrived in the desert of the American Southwest. The ruins left behind by this magnificent culture have inspired awe, wonder and controversy for generations.
For over three hundred years, Chaco Canyon, New Mexico, was home to one of the greatest centers of culture, commerce and religious ceremony of its time. Today, it is a place of sacred beauty and mystery and its ruins are a monument to pre-historic ingenuity and sophistication that still inspire awe and wonder at the breadth and magnitude of their accomplishments.
Known today as the Hisatsinom, or “Ancient Ones” by their Hopi descendants, the inhabitants of Chaco Canyon created one of the most sophisticated centers of trade, commerce and spiritual practice ever to exist in North America. Master architects and astronomers, the Ancient Ones constructed Great Houses and Kivas that aligned astronomically to the movement of the Sun, Moon and Stars above, built an extensive system of finely engineered roads and incorporated advanced concepts of sacred geometry into the construction of their temples. They were a people deeply connected to the sacred landscape of the earth and the movement of the stars.
And then, as mysteriously as they arrived, they disappeared.
Who were these ancient people?
Where did they come from and where did they go?
Why did they choose such an inhospitable region to build a civilization?
How were they able to accomplish such feats without modern technology?
What wisdom can we gain from their example?
Joins us and explore the mystery and legacy of Chaco Canyon as we retrace the footsteps of the Ancients. Located in the arid yet beautiful high desert of New Mexico, Chaco Canyon is designated as a UNESCO (United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural) Heritage site and ‘Dark Sky’ preserve, and offers unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself in the wonder and mysteries of the past.
This multi-experiential journey is a unique opportunity to explore the rich history of Chaco Canyon by day and night. By day we will investigate the sacred structures, pathways and petroglyphs of the canyon, at night we will gather beneath the stars and share our insights and discoveries around the campfire like our ancestors long ago.
